One of the cornerstones of our strategy to improve our environmental performance has been to reduce carbon footprint. Since 2004, when the Maison pioneered the Bilan Carbone® methodology, Louis Vuitton has been committed to assessing and reducing greenhouse gas emissions caused by all its activities around the world.
In alignment with the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement objective of limiting the average global warming to 1.5°C, Louis Vuitton is now committed to an ambitious target of reducing emissions by 55% by 2030 as compared to 2018 levels. This plan consists of two parts:
• -55% CO2 emissions generated by our energy consumption in our own locations
• -55% CO2 emissions for each of our products sold
Louis Vuitton’s target and plan have been approved by the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi), a joint partnership of the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), the United Nations Global Compact, the World Resource Institute (WRI) and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). The initiative encourages companies to set targets for reducing their greenhouse gas emissions in order to help limit the increase in global temperatures below 2°C, or even below 1.5°C, as outlined by the Paris Climate Agreement.
