• WOMEN'S SPRING-SUMMER 2019 SHOW: THE COUR CARRÉE

Revisiting to the Cour Carrée of the Louvre, where Louis Vuitton's Spring-Summer 2019 runway show was held on October 3rd, 2018 (Sydney time).

The Renaissance façades of the Cour Carrée, one of the courtyards of the Louvre Palace, were progressively built in parallel with the evolution of the rest of the Palace until the 17th century. The buildings form a square of approximately 160 meters in length. Hence the name “carré”, meaning "square" in French.

The Cour Carrée is also situated next to the historical axis of Paris, known as the Voie Royale ("triumphal way"). This axis is a straight line of monuments and thoroughfares that extends from the equestrian statue of Louis XIV next to Ieoh Ming Pei’s pyramid all the way to the Grande Arche of La Défense, passing through the Tuileries Gardens, the obelisk of the Place de la Concorde, the Champs Élysées, and the Arc de Triomphe on the Place de l'Étoile .

Inventing a new landscape for the upcoming Women's Spring-Summer 2019 Collection

A passion for travel is inherent to the Louis Vuitton House, but shall the creation of one’s own world even surpass physical voyages? The starting point of the new Women's Collection by Nicolas Ghesquière is the idea of mirages, fantastical shores that become precious memories for every traveller. Mirage, from the Latin “mirare”, means ‘seeing with astonishment’, perhaps an apt description of fashion's essential mission.

  • FONDATION LOUIS VUITTON: EGON SCHIELE AND JEAN-MICHEL BASQUIAT

The Fondation Louis Vuitton is pleased to announce that its fall exhibits will be devoted to two exceptional 20th century artists : Egon Schiele and Jean Michel Basquiat.

In Fall, the Fondation will host two major exhibitions: one is dedicated to Jean-Michel Basquiat, the other one to Egon Schiele.

    EGON SCHIELE
Egon Schiele’s work is indissociable from the Viennese spirit of the early 20th century. In just a few years, his drawing emerged as one of the peaks of expressionism. At odds with the Academy, which he entered precociously, he founded the Neukunstgruppe in 1909 and, thanks to Gustav Klimt, discovered the work of Van Gogh, Munch and Toorop. The exhibition brings together around 100 works of drawings, gouaches, and paintings.

    JEAN-MICHEL BASQUIAT
The work of Jean-Michel Basquiat, one of the most significant painters of the 20th century, is spread over four levels of Frank Gehry’s building.

The exhibition covers the painter’s whole career, from 1980 to 1988, focusing on 120 defining works. With the Heads from 1981-1982, gathered for the first time here, and the presentation of several collaborations between Basquiat and Warhol, the exhibition includes works previously unseen in Europe.

    Opening October 3rd 2018.
