    • A tribute to Yves Carcelle - Louis Vuitton Heritage NEWS
With profound sadness, Bernard Arnault and the LVMH Group announce the death of Yves Carcelle on 31 August 2014, following a long and courageous struggle with illness.

During more than 20 years as its chief executive, and with his remarkable vision, energy and sense of strategy, Yves Carcelle established Louis Vuitton as the world’s foremost brand in the luxury sector.

A graduate of France’s prestigious Ecole Polytechnique and INSEAD business school, Yves Carcelle was the artisan of Louis Vuitton’s development worldwide, especially in Asia and Japan.  He oversaw Louis Vuitton’s entry into the world of fashion, through Marc Jacobs’ shows, and also into the jewellery and watchmaking sectors.

Yves Carcelle joined the LVMH Group and its Executive Committee in 1989, and following his departure from Louis Vuitton in 2012, he served as Chairman of the Fondation Louis Vuitton.

"It is with deep emotion and regret that I learned of Yves Carcelle’s passing.  A tireless traveller, Yves was a pioneer who embodied the image and values of Louis Vuitton.  Always curious, passionate and in motion, he was one of the most inspiring leaders of men and women whom I have ever had the privilege of knowing.  My thoughts today are with Yves’ family, as well as with all his former staff at Louis Vuitton, who will long remember him as a manager and mentor who was accessible, human and sincere.  Today, the LVMH Group has lost one of its closest and dearest friends and I join in the sorrow of each of us as we mourn Yves passing, but also importantly in our collective appreciation for his life, his work and his legacy," said Bernard Arnault.

Michael Burke, CEO Louis Vuitton, pays tribute to Yves Carcelle on behalf of  Louis Vuitton collaborators “who had the chance to work beside a man who was a visionary, passionate, and inspirational having written one of the most brilliant chapters in the history of worldwide luxury.”

  • A CELEBRATION OF MONOGRAM

    • A CELEBRATION OF MONOGRAM - Louis Vuitton Heritage NEWS
The Icon And The Iconoclasts is a special project instigated by Louis Vuitton to celebrate the iconic Monogram.

Six renowned and creative iconoclasts, Frank Gehry, Rei Kawakubo, Karl Lagerfeld, Christian Louboutin, Marc Newson and Cindy Sherman, have each been given carte blanche to create a personally inspired bag and/or a piece of luggage, using the iconic Monogram while keeping with the brand’s spirit of innovation, collaboration and daring.

Spanning, blurring and redefining the disciplines of art, architecture and design, this diverse and extraordinary group has created a unique collection.

The project itself was initiated by Delphine Arnault, Executive Vice President of Louis Vuitton and Nicolas Ghesquière, Louis Vuitton’s Artistic Director of Women’s Collections.

“When we talked with Nicolas Ghesquière about the extraordinary talents we would like to approach we simply went to those who are among the best in their fields,” says Delphine Arnault. “We were interested in people who work with their minds and their hands. I thought it was so interesting – and fun! – to have all of these different points of view on the Monogram. It is inspiring to see how they envision things, to see their perspectives. This is a group of geniuses.”

“Monogram is timeless, yet with this project we wanted to celebrate it in a way that defied the conventions of ‘classic’ says Michael Burke, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Louis Vuitton.

These very exclusive and limited editions will be available in selected Louis Vuitton stores worldwide from mid-October 2014. "The Icon and The Iconoclasts: The Celebration of Monogram" launch event will take place in New York City on November 7th, 2014.

  • MIND OF A VISIONARY

Share the views of five cutting-edge visionaries in fields as broad as literature, economics and politics interviewed at the 2014 World Economic Forum.

The World Economic Forum ‘s Annual meeting last January in Davos, Switzerland, gave Louis Vuitton the perfect setting to interview five business leaders of the international scene: Tom Reiss, Félix Marquardt, Atiq Rahimi, Gino Yu and Lourenço Bustani.

In these films, these entrepreneur travellers, chosen for their shared views and values in terms of excellence and innovation, discuss the notions of elegance, travelling and moving frontiers.

For Tom Reiss, elegance is “about remaining true to yourself first of all, (…) about keeping a connection to the past, keeping a connection to some kind of tradition. That’s very personal; it can be a very personal tradition (…) about finding meaning in what you wear just like there is meaning in what you do.”
